UGANDA CLASS VISIT OF 2015

July 2015

Trip Background

Such was the popularity of the QEGS 6th form trip to Uganda that it was decided to break with the tradition of bi-annual visits and form a group for 2015.

A very large project for 2014 had been the building of the new classroom block and by the time of the 2015 trip this was completed, but required finishing touches and the big job of decorating.

Achievements

As usual the students set about fundraising and we were able to buy paint and materials in bulk at the nearby market then set to work. Everywhere was decorated inside and out with colourful murals in the classrooms as well as touching up in other parts of the school, there was money left over to equip the classrooms with desks made locally.

It was also clear that it was now time to think about dormitories for the school as an increasing number of children called Good Samaritan their home. We were able to start the planning ready for the next trip to see the finished result. The group had spent a lot of time collecting clothes for the children and their families and were able to share out a large amount of useful items from the school hall.

Everybody was impressed at the high standard of education at the school and spent time with the pupils in and out of class. A day was also spent at Mackay secondary school where, as always, we were made welcome and good friends made. As always, a fantastic group of students who gained as much from the trip as the children they were going to help, and, as had become the tradition, left their hand prints on a wall as a lasting reminder of their time at Good Samaritan.
