Since 2010, The Erasmus Uganda Charitable Trust has received support from the staff and students at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School (QEGS) in Blackburn.
QEGS Sixth Form students have raised thousands of pounds to help build facilities at The Good Samaritan Primary School with a small group visiting the school every two years.
The Trip Archives
2010
The money raised paid for the Assembly Hall to be built. Whilst visiting charity namesake Rev. Erasmus, now in retirement in Kabale, the group decorated a hostel that was built for female nurses to stay in safety.
2014
The money they raised was used to start rebuilding the old classrooms and to get a dormitory built for those who live at the school. They brought great energy to the school and they made a fantastic impression on the young children.
2017
The money raised was enough to begin constructing the houses and refurbishing existing teacher houses close to the school. This solidified the process of the Good Samaritan really developing into a recognisable primary school.
2022
The money raised was enough to paint the entire exterior of the school and buy new classroom and bedroom furniture. Also purchased were a slide, merry-go-round and swing set for the playground. And perhaps the most significant purchase was the school’s first ever computer.
2012
The money raised allowed for new classrooms to be added to the Assembly Hall and to build a place for the children to sleep. A well was also sunk at the school around this time. This was a much needed boost to everyone.
2015
The group raised a total of £8000. This was used to build and prepare new shower houses and toilet blocks, both facilities were the first of their kind at the school. It was the experience of a lifetime that the students all felt privileged to have.
2019
The money raised was enough to build the new kitchen, replacing the open fire technique. But more importantly was ensuring the continuation of the partnership between QEGS and the Good Samaritan School for the future.
2024
The next visit is scheduled to take place in July 2024.
